Nelson Mandela International Day is celebrated annually in honour of Nelson Mandela on his birthday, 18 July
The day encourages the public to unite together, taking action against poverty. Knowledge is power, and without education, the cycle of poverty cannot be broken. MHG partnered with African Angels, situated on the East Coast in Cintsa to commemorate this special day. This community school is situated close to Balugha River Estate, an MHG Property Development.
About the school:
The school was founded in the absence of affordable, quality education within the area. African Angels Independent School is a beacon of hope for the 136 children who attend school each day. The school features well equipped classrooms, qualified and experienced teachers, a properly applied curriculum, aswell as computer facilities. Every child receives porridge for breakfast and a hot lunch daily.
“It is hard for children to learn if they are hungry.” – Founder Lou Billet explains on our visit to the school.
Together with our partners, MHG was able to collect over 1000 tins of food for the school. This will enable the schools daily meal services ensuring every child receives a meal whilst at school. For some pupils, this is often their only meal for the day.
We would like to thank the local East London Community for their positive contribution towards this drive. It was certainly heartwarming to see the fantastic response.
Thank you to our partners who assisted with drop off locations, and further donations towards the drive;
